10-21 August 2019: Youth exchange ´Waves of Change´ in Portugal.

Faisca Voadora is organizing in cooperation with Schoolclash the “Waves of Change” project. Waves of Change is an intercultural youth exchange aiming to bring together, for 10 days in Costa da Caparica, persons from Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, Georgia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. Together, we will explore intercultural learning and ecology, with a specific focus on plastic pollution in the oceans.

We will use a combination of non-formal methodologies in order to promote exchanges inside the group and mutual learning: intercultural and linguistic animation, theatre of the oppressed adapted to an intercultural context, outdoor activities (hiking and surf), and artistic creation using waste and recycled materials.

The climax of the project will be the creation of an enormous mural, on a long wall close to Costa da Caparica’s beach. The mural will represent waves inspired by Hokusai and will gain extra volume thanks to recycled plastics that we will have previously collected on the beach and treated on location.

We don’t believe that this project makes sense inside a bubble: we want to channel the group’s energy to multiply the impact, by involving passers-by in the painting and constructing of the mural.
